Tasty Grilled Turkey Burgers
“Summertime is Beef Burger Time! We all love a great, grilled beef burger. Ashley’s husband, Jim, makes the BEST grilled beef burgers we named JIMBURGERS. That being said, sometimes we think about and want to eat less beef. If you’re willing to try a turkey burger, this just might be the one that will win you over. Flavorful, delicious and juicy!”

Total time 20 minutes
Servings 8 burgers
220 calories each without roll
Ingredients
- 1+1/3 lb 94% lean ground turkey
- 1 lb Italian Turkey sausage (hot or sweet)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground Black pepper
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
- 8 Burger Buns of your choice (I prefer onion burger buns)
Method
- Using kitchen shears, gently peel away the very thin casings off the sausages and discard them.
- Place the sausage meat in a large bowl along with the ground turkey, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard.
- Using your hands, mix together until completely combined. Mixture may seem quite wet.
- Form into 8 even sized burgers. Weighing them on a kitchen scale helps to make them all the same size which really helps with cooking them evenly.
- Place on a baking sheet and refrigerate until ready to cook. Time in the refrigerator helps to firm them up.
- Grease grill with vegetable oil on a paper towel and preheat to high.
- Place turkey burgers on the grill and cook for 5 minutes, covered.
- Flip and continue to cook, covered, for 3-5 minutes more, until burgers are completely cooked through, adding a slice of cheese, if you desire. Meanwhile, toast buns on grill.
- Assemble the burgers for your own particular taste. I love lettuce and tomato on mine!
Tips
- These uncooked burgers can be easily frozen for up to 3 months. Wrap tightly in parchment paper and always defrost in the refrigerator, not on the kitchen counter.
- The exact weight of the ground turkey and Italian turkey sausage on your packages might not match up with the amounts in this recipe. I do think it is better to have less of the Italian turkey sausage than the ground turkey unless you enjoy a very seasoned burger.
