The TRX system is an incredible and innovative piece of fitness gear that anybody can use. It’s portable and can be quickly set up in your home gym, the park, or anywhere else you want to take it. TRX delivers an incredible workout for both men and women, regardless of fitness level. It’s intuitively adjustable for any user and offers a ton of varied strength and cardio workouts, each one engaging the core to maintain balance and control. This was a favorite Christmas gift last year, too.
Polar is a reputable brand with a wide-selection of fitness products for all types of athletes. The FT4 is a well-priced basic fitness heart rate monitor that offers a real-time read out of calories burned during your workout. The watch is gender-specific, so make sure you identify the male/female version before buying. This would make a great gift for someone interested in quantifying the intensity of their workout.
Almost anything you do on your floor workout, you can make more challenging by doing it on the Bosu ball. A quick search on YouTube will show you a million exercises for it. If you want to take your core workouts to the next level, one way to do it is to move yourself to an unstable surface like the Bosu. Sitting or standing on the Bosu (which stands for “Both Sides Up”) forces your core muscles to engage to keep you upright and balanced. This equipment makes a nice addition to a home gym for the more experienced exerciser.
Medicine balls come in 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 lb versions. They can be used for cardio workouts (bounce the balls off the floor, toss them to a partner) or strength workouts (lunge with a twist, crunches, squats). Medicine balls add some variety and interest to workouts that traditionally call for hand weights. If you’re looking to start your collection, I would suggest choosing a mid-weight medicine ball, such as the 6-lb or 8-lb size.
This was my first Jillian DVD and it is fantastic. Get ready for a total-body strength and cardio workout that targets all major problem areas – flabby arms, jiggly thighs and muffin tops. This workout is tough. Jillian delivers a first class butt-kicking like only she can. It would make an excellent addition to your collection – or a perfect choice as your first exercise video (but only if you’re serious about working your butt off… literally).
